  • On June 24th, 2025, SMFR’s Technical Rescue Team—working with Fiore & Sons, Inc. Construction and Douglas County Animal Control—rescued a dog that was trapped in a trench.  11 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Police in Colorado Springs arrested 18-year-old Andrew Reid after a fireworks citation turned into a bomb squad investigation when officers found he had a homemade explosive and other suspicious items in a Rockrimmon parking lot—bomb squad officials are now working to get a search warrant for his home.  11 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A UCCS biology student leads NASA-funded Team 25 — a group using supercritical CO₂ to develop a waterless laundry system for astronauts with a $10,000 grant. Some local groups have protested new national park signs — urging visitors to report negative views about America and calling for history to be preserved.  KOAA News5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Colorado Springs plans to add eight new trail crossings this summer — including sites at Templeton Gap Rd and Rock Island Trail — and will start Sinton Trail improvements on Monday through mid-September to boost safety for cyclists and trail users. These projects are part of the city's effort to achieve a gold rating by the League of American Bicyclists.  KOAA News5
  • Starting June 30, the DMV will raise fees for driver’s licenses, IDs, and duplicate licenses to keep pace with inflation & smooth transactions. License plate and registration fees will change on July 1 & be rounded to the nearest nickel.  FOX21
  • The City of Colorado Springs selected AVA Presents to manage the historic City Auditorium downtown and plans to revitalize the venue — the lease includes a five-year initial term with four optional renewals, and City Council approval is needed since the deal is set below fair market value.  City of Colorado Springs
