  • A Colorado Springs veteran wants to help his fellow servicemembers succeed in civilian life — he has not released further details about his plan.  11 News
  • 95-year-old twins celebrated their birthdays at Seven Falls in Colorado Springs—joining family to mark the milestone at this popular local attraction.  11 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded to a south Colorado Springs stabbing on Janitell Road near Las Vegas Street just before 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, where a critically injured victim was rushed to the hospital—suspect Johnny Simmons was taken into custody on a $50,000 bond.  11 News
  • The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said they found missing 86-year-old Merilou Athens-Barnekow safe after she was last seen June 14 near 20900 Deputy Point in Midway—she was driving a 2005 Silver Dodge Caravan.  11 News
  • The Douglas County Sheriff's Office began its investigation after a woman's body was found along southbound I-25 near a Larkspur exit early Sunday, June 15 (roughly a half mile north of Exit 173); drivers with dashcam footage from June 4 or June 5 are urged to come forward.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, ahead of the Karman Line special election, campaign finance reports show that annexation supporters raised $550,000 from Norris Ranch contributions while opposition groups reported only about $44,000 in recent cash donations—expenses focused on printing, postage, and ads. More than 60,000 ballots have been returned out of 330,000 mailed and total contributions reached $1,051,135—about $17.46 spent for each returned ballot.  KOAA News5
  • Drivers between Teller and El Paso counties face delays on eastbound Highway 24 from milepost 293 to 298 as CDOT crews perform rockfall mitigation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today — speeds are reduced to 35 mph and work will resume from June 23 to 25.  11 News
  • CDOT announced rockfall mitigation work on U.S. 24 that will cause lane closures and slower speeds in Ute Pass Canyon over the next two weeks. The work will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday to Wednesday and from June 23 to June 25 on the eastbound lanes from mile marker 293 to 298 +drivers are advised to plan for delays and drive carefully+.  Colorado Springs Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new study published in JAMA found that about one in three dementia cases may be linked to untreated hearing loss. Dr. Jared Teter from Belton Hearing Care Center in Colorado Springs said people 55 and older should get their hearing checked early—this may help delay dementia symptoms.  11 News
