  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced that Get Outdoors Day returns to Memorial Park on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event will offer activities like kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, archery and rock climbing—plus a Free Fishing Weekend promotion providing free fishing poles to the first 800 youth.  11 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An American Airlines flight from Colorado Springs landed in Denver in March and its right engine caught fire after a fuel leak and loose parts were found—12 passengers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries while investigators look into the maintenance issues.  FOX21

CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning for the alleged armed robbery at a convenience store on the 2800 block of Dublin Boulevard in northeast Colorado Springs—he reportedly threatened an employee with a weapon, fled in a dark SUV with a female accomplice, and was later found at his West Fountain Boulevard residence with bail set at $25,000.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Colorado Springs Police reported at 12:20 a.m. that 72-year-old Richard Billingsly is missing after he was last seen at 6 on the 3000 block of Reuben Dr near Dublin Boulevard & N. Union Boulevard; he is an at-risk adult described as a Black male about 5'10" tall and 200 lbs wearing a Cleveland Browns T-shirt and blue jeans.  KOAA News5
  • A Colorado Springs woman is seeking accountability after her four-year-old Pomeranian was reportedly mauled to death by another dog while under the care of a pet sitter in December—she reported the incident to animal control to stop an unauthorized cremation. Brig. General Linell Letendre retired today from the Air Force Academy amid concerns that upcoming civilian faculty cuts may affect the school’s academic standards.  KOAA News5

  • The 41st annual Colorado College Summer Music Festival runs Saturday through June 27—offering free and ticketed classical music performances by renowned musicians. Famed conductor Scott Yoo will lead Igor Stravinsky’s 'The Soldier’s Tale' on June 22 with Jane Kaczmarek narrating, highlighting the festival's blend of live performance and storytelling.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor stresses that public safety is the top priority and reports that since June 2023, 222 new officers were hired, pushing the force above 800 while staffing at the communications center grew to 107. The city will expand its drone program for faster response and boost enforcement of traffic and expired tag rules—steps meant to keep neighborhoods safer as Colorado Springs grows.  Pikes Peak Bulletin
  • Traffic on the eastbound lanes of Highway 24 Frontage Road from northbound 8th Street to the Highway 24 intersections will be redirected beginning Monday, June 9 as detours are set and the east sidewalk on the 8th Street and Midland Trail bridges will close & pedestrians should use the west side. Crews will remove the Midland Trail bridge over Fountain Creek on June 12 and then widen the 8th Street bridge by adding a northbound lane with a new multi-use path, with construction set to continue until early 2026.  City of Colorado Springs
