COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pikes Peak—America’s Mountain is set to host a busy June with hill climb testing from June 2 to 8, National Donut Day on June 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a Father’s Day discount on June 16, while the summit will close on June 22 for the 103rd International Hill Climb and free Ranger Interpretation Programs run on select Saturdays and Sundays with daily shuttles available from May 23 through select September weekends from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.  City of Colorado Springs

CRIME NEWS

  • The family of Mohammed Sabry Soliman—accused of attacking protestors in Boulder on Sunday with a Molotov cocktail—has been detained by ICE and is being processed for expedited removal.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • A Colorado Springs family is suing local KFC and Taco Bell (owned by KBP Brands) after a father was taken hostage and shot during a drive-thru incident on June 2, 2023, alleging the restaurants ignored a history of violence and failed to keep him safe while his wife seeks damages and a jury trial.  FOX21

CULTURE NEWS

  • Colorado Springs Philharmonic will host its annual Fourth of July concert, 'Star-Spangled Symphony,' followed by a fireworks show in partnership with Colorado Springs Sports Corp at Ford Amphitheater, a new open-air venue on the north side that seats nearly 10,000. Tickets cost $5 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday—musical acts from School of Rock and a local high school band will entertain before fireworks light up the sky behind Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains.  Colorado Springs Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Community members celebrated Eastlake High School's 20th anniversary Tuesday, June 3 with music, a barbecue cookout, ceremonial cake, and a time capsule, gathering alumni and staff in a packed building. The charter school, founded in 2004 as Life Skills Learning Center and serving high-risk students with flexible schedules, plans to add a peer-mentorship program with the Colorado Health Foundation (a new grant-funded initiative).  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Springs finalized an eight-month project that added 8,000 feet of new waterline and improved ADA access at Garden of the Gods Park — workers widened a trail, repaved a parking lot, and added nine fire hydrants to boost firefighting readiness.  Colorado Springs Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new support group for caregivers of adults with intellectual disabilities began meeting in February to offer free guidance and expert advice on topics like financial planning and caregiver burnout — the group meets at 4 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month at Peak Vista’s DDHC with next session on June 11.  11 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Colorado Springs will host the 2028 State Games of America from July 14 to July 18, bringing over 12,500 athletes to compete in more than 35 sports. The event — including competitions at the Air Force Academy — is expected to boost the local economy by an estimated $8 million.  FOX21
