CRIME NEWS

  • The Colorado Springs Police arrested David Dean, who had seven felony warrants, on Thursday night when he retreated into a home on East Moreno Avenue + officers later used a drone and released gas to force his surrender before booking him into the El Paso County Jail.  11 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 29, 2025, the Air Force Academy held its graduation where Secretary of the Air Force Troy E. Meink delivered a commencement speech to over 900 cadets and their families. Rainy weather canceled the Thunderbirds flyover—yet people filled Falcon Stadium to celebrate the ceremony.  Colorado Springs Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters in Pike-San Isabel National Forests—Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands found 24 abandoned campfires over Memorial Day weekend and responded to four wildfires, three caused by humans and one by lightning.  FOX21
  • On Friday, members of the Root for Justice ministry at First Congregational United Church of Christ planted 24 trees in the Hillside neighborhood to begin a food forest, and today they will add 70 more plants to build an organic wind barrier at Food to Power — a project supported by city forestry to boost tree equity and help cool local neighborhoods.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A GAO report said U.S. Space Command in Colorado Springs needs a new $1.5 billion facility—a single building to replace its four older sites as funding remains on hold. The project will begin in January 2029 and finish in January 2034 while lawmakers continue debate over its future.  KOAA News5
  • Commissioner Cami Bremer resigned from the El Paso County Board, with her final day set for June 10. The board said it received her resignation on May 30 and will appoint a replacement within 10 days or let Governor Jared Polis fill the post in 15 days—ensuring a smooth transition.  FOX21
  • Passenger traffic at Colorado Springs Airport fell 6.2 percent to 181,940 passengers in April while the average load factor stayed at 73.7 percent; seat availability also rose 4.5 percent year-over-year. The airport will add seasonal and year-round routes — including international flights to Cancun and nonstop service to Chicago — as it works to attract more travelers through spring and summer.  City of Colorado Springs
  • El Paso County Sheriff Joe Roybal said his jail currently holds 137 DOC inmates in a ward meant for 80 as facilities struggle to transfer prisoners to state care. The county spends $143.18 per inmate daily against a reimbursement of $77.16, and Roybal urged the Governor and legislature to act since the state will open 100 beds on July 1 that he said may not be enough.  FOX21

HEALTH NEWS

  • As Mental Health Awareness Month ended, veteran and caseworker John Timmons urged fellow veterans to speak up about their struggles since many feel they must stay silent. He has worked with veterans for eight years at Mount Carmel Veterans Service Center—he noted that nontraditional therapies and telehealth offer safe ways to get help.  11 News
