  • Developers held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday for The Launchpad, a new affordable housing complex built for youth that will offer 50 apartments and supportive programs to help residents gain independence in Colorado Springs. Approved applicants aged 18—25 with incomes below 30 percent of the area median will begin moving in the first week of June—this project pairs housing with services for job placement, life skills and health care.  Colorado Public Radio
  • The City of Colorado Springs, Trails and Open Space Coalition, and Earthwise Waste Solutions plan a community cleanup on May 31 from 9 a.m. to noon along the Midland Trail between 14th and 31st Streets—aiming to improve local conditions. Volunteers can register through TOSC and meet at Vermijo Park at 2601 Vermijo Avenue—helping beautify the trail.  FOX21
  • The former Club Q building now shows a new permanent memorial after cardboard posters on its front wall were removed; it now features five 12-foot concrete pillars (each with a plaque) honoring the five victims killed in the 2022 shooting. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man is recovering Wednesday after a cow moose attacked him and his dogs on his property near Woodland Park Monday at South Meadows Campground—CPW said the animal, with two calves nearby, pushed him down and stomped on his dogs, causing one to be put down and leaving the other under observation.  KOAA News5

CRIME NEWS

  • Colorado Springs police are searching for at least three other persons of interest in a Saturday shooting near Academy and Palmer Park boulevards that injured six people; a witness said a white Mercedes-Benz with bullet holes was abandoned at Super Star Car Wash (four miles south of the scene) and one victim remains in critical condition.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A lawsuit by two Palmer Lake residents alleges that town officials misused public funds and mixed grant money in one account — they are accused of falsifying records to secure $1.3M in state and federal dollars. A temporary restraining order by community groups asks the town to remove a petition exposing personal details and to move today’s annexation hearing — steps meant to uphold open governance.  FOX21
  • The El Paso County Sheriff's Office hosted the Level I Regional Mounted Unit Academy last week at the Norris Penrose Event Center — mounted units from across Colorado received hands-on training in emergency response and ceremonial functions.
