ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday night, a man got stuck on a 75-foot rock formation at Garden of the Gods while climbing without safety gear, and fire officials set up a rope system—rescuing him safely with no injuries reported.  KVOR

  • Monse and Tim Hines will open The Best Coffee & Lounge on Tejon Street on May 29, taking over the former Wild Goose Meeting House at 401 N. Tejon Street— the shop will serve coffee, espresso drinks, and breakfast plates in the morning and offer sandwiches, light bites, wine, and cocktails in the afternoon.  FOX21

CRIME NEWS

  • Cadet Candidate Ava Moore, 18 who recently accepted an appointment to the Air Force Academy, was killed while kayaking on Lake Grapevine when a jet ski struck her in a hit-and-run — Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez is in custody.  11 News
  • More than five years after the 2021 murder of ranch hand Donaciano Amaya, 28-year-old Kevin Armondo Chaparro-Macias—accused in the killing—pleaded not guilty in 4th Judicial District Court; his next court date is set for Sept. 18 and his trial is expected to begin in October.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • On Monday morning, police responded to a hospital report on El Camino Drive after an argument where a gun discharged causing non-life-threatening injuries, and they arrested Elayna Cantu—she now faces charges for second degree assault and false imprisonment.  KVOR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colorado Springs School District 11 is launching a summer food service program today that offers free breakfast and lunch to children aged 1–18 at various sites in town—locations include mobile home parks, community centers, libraries, and schools, with services running until Aug. 1 and sites closed on July 4.  FOX21

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso County will begin replacing the cross pan at the Benchley Drive and Holbein Road intersection on May 29 — the project is expected to take three working days and drivers should follow the designated detour. Please reduce speeds and stay alert for work zone traffic during the closure.  El Paso County
  • City officials canceled the proposed roundabout at Platte and Nevada after a study found that westbound traffic queues would extend past Weber during peak hours and projected costs were $5-6 million — concerns that led to the halt of the project. Officials said they expected to comment on the study results Tuesday morning.  11 News
  • The Colorado Springs City Council voted 6—3 to reject Kenny Kuniyuki's nomination to the Pikes Peak Library District board over concerns about his residency, and the nomination will be sent back to the joint committee of city council and county commissioners for further review. Earlier on Tuesday, the El Paso County Commissioners had confirmed his appointment, which required a two-thirds approval from both groups.  Colorado Springs Gazette
