EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Thunderbirds arrived for a site survey on Tuesday and will conduct two practice runs Wednesday to prepare for a flyover during the Air Force Academy graduation on Thursday * officials will monitor a 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Colorado Springs Gazette
- ➤ Colorado College received a $1.5 million grant (from the Mellon Foundation Humanities for All Times) to launch Generative Futures, a three-year curriculum initiative examining language's role in the AI era. The program will offer free workshops, course grants and summer research projects open to the public. 11 News
- ➤ Starting today, students 18 or younger can access free summer breakfast + lunch at multiple sites across the county through the federally funded Summer Food Service Program. Meal times and service dates vary by location, and families can simply show up without pre-registering. Colorado Springs Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Colorado Springs City Council approved vacating Boulder Street (between Nevada and Weber) by a 6 to 2 vote to support Palmer High School's upgrade project that will include a new track. The move reverses a March decision to keep the street closed. KOAA News5
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Doctors at Children's Hospital Colorado report that e-bike and e-scooter injuries among children have surged recently, urging families to use proper safety gear (such as helmets) and seek medical care for injuries. The hospital advises attentive supervision to reduce accident risks. 11 News
- ➤ Although a recent report flagged Grandview Hospital as at financial risk from Medicaid changes, UCHealth officials stressed the 57 bed facility (near University Village) is not closing. Medicaid work requirements will begin rolling out in December, and other UCHealth hospitals will help meet patient needs. Colorado Springs Gazette
