- ➤ A controversial housing project for homeless youth, The Launchpad, will open on Tuesday, May 27 at 846 North 19th St. It will offer 50 permanent supportive units for young adults aged 18 to 24 and come with strict on-site management — including 24-hour program staff — to provide education, job placement, and healthcare support. - ➤ Today, Territory Days kicks off at Bancroft Park to mark its 50th anniversary with more than 30 bands on three stages, vendors, food, a beer and wine garden, and a kids’ zone. The three-day event runs until May 26 with free shuttle service from the Colorado Springs C.A.B. Garage, VIP parking at the Shrine Club for $30, and designated handicapped spots — no dogs are allowed. FOX21
- ➤ Yesterday, a groundbreaking ceremony formally began the development of Grey Hawk neighborhood park on Colorado Springs' far north side — a 4.47-acre green space near North Gate Boulevard and Voyager Parkway — and the park will finish later this year with natural play areas and a perimeter trail that follows the land. - ➤ Fire crews responded at 11:45 a.m. Friday, May 23, to a grassfire of about 1/10 acre at 1201 S. Nevada Ave. and worked to contain it as smoke was seen from Interstate 25 — the department said updates may come. Colorado Springs Gazette
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A homeowner stopped a burglary attempt in unincorporated El Paso County when 27-year-old Brody Burnett entered a garage and set off the alarm, holding him at gunpoint until police arrived—officers then arrested Burnett after a brief chase and found burglary tools, fentanyl, and a stolen credit card. - ➤ Jefferson County deputies arrested 30-year-old Brandon Montano Wednesday at Rock Rest Lodge (16005 Mt. Vernon Road) for allegedly assaulting a waitress at gunpoint and he faces charges (second-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault-strangulation, false imprisonment, menacing and prohibited use of weapons) after she wrestled his gun away and alerted her coworkers. 11 News
- ➤ Two juveniles with an alleged history of motor vehicle theft were arrested Thursday evening by Colorado Springs Police after being found with two stolen vehicles and a handgun — one of the juveniles had multiple prior arrests for auto theft and burglaries while an adult male was also detained for an unrelated warrant. - ➤ The City of Colorado Springs broke ground on a new neighborhood park near Voyager Parkway and North Gate Boulevard on Friday, May 23 (covering 4.47 acres in the Grey Hawk subdivision). City officials said the park was approved in March 2024 after three public design meetings (which shaped its final plan). FOX21
- ➤ Today, the City of Colorado Springs is accepting free reservations for the Trackchair program— it gives people with mobility needs access to local open spaces.
