ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Colorado State Patrol warned drivers Tuesday to slow down and check for bicyclists and pedestrians after a bicyclist in Boulder County and three pedestrians in Denver died in separate crashes on Sunday.  11 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Joel Lang—accused of second-degree murder and vehicular homicide for fatally hitting Kristy Kerst in a Monument McDonald’s parking lot—is scheduled to have his competency to stand trial assessed on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. while he remains in jail.  11 News
  • Bobby Allen Stark, 49, was sentenced to 10 years to life after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a child and trying to kidnap his adopted victim—he fled the U.S. but was later arrested in Guyana in a multinational effort.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Bryan Parada, 38, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Park Hill Shopping Center on May 16—police said he was shot after a 2:45 p.m. call about an altercation—and Emmanuel Cooley, 49, was arrested and now faces a first-degree murder charge.  Colorado Springs Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Okika Devices is moving its headquarters and research jobs to Colorado Springs after announcing the relocation on Tuesday; the company will add 20 positions with an average wage of $104,250 and has started hiring for engineering, sales, and procurement roles. Governor Jared Polis and state officials say the move will boost Colorado’s semiconductor industry — a sign of growing local tech innovation.  11 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Work has begun to expand Blodgett Open Space on Colorado Springs' northwest side, nearly doubling its area to 400 acres with new parking, entrances and trail improvements. The project will finish by the end of summer 2026 + will add 14 miles of improved trails and close five miles of illegal paths.  Denver7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A quarter-mile of Dublin Boulevard between Fieler Drive and Mustang Rim Drive will be closed for two months starting May 27 for road widening and added trail projects — detour routes are in place to help maintain access and emergency services.  11 News
  • Colorado Springs will see several planned road closures as the intersection of Dublin Boulevard and Peterson Road shuts down May 27 at 7 p.m. for a two-month widening project that includes new sidewalks and a signal — beginning June 3, Boulder Street near William J. Palmer High School will close for long-term renovations affecting Weber Street, while repairs at the Pikes Peak parking lot are delayed until mid-June but remain largely available for Territory Days.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Dublin Boulevard between Fieler Drive and Mustang Rim Drive will close from May 27 at 7 p.m. to August 1 for major road improvements including new lanes, a raised median, and a multi-use path. The closure—timed with summer break at Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy—will restrict access at the Dublin Boulevard and Peterson Road intersection to authorized vehicles and require drivers to follow posted detour routes.  City of Colorado Springs
