  • Denver-based Sportsbook Bar & Grill will open its fourth Colorado location on May 29 at the Springhill Suites by Marriott on 402 S. Tejon St.+ The 5,000 sqft venue will feature high-definition sports viewing, upscale bar food, and extended hours, with a ribbon cutting planned for June 5.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Owner Jasmine Andrew of White Lotus Café and Bakery at 13141 Bass Pro Drive now offers cakes, croissants, and Japanese-style Shio pan butter rolls after expanding from its Thai-fusion sweets menu; the bakery makes rolls daily & reserves three-day croissants for weekends while seeking trained help.  Colorado Springs Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two local muralists unveiled new works at Ford Amphitheater after winning $2,500 grants each from VENU Arts and Culture Foundation — their pieces capture the energy of live music near the bowl, where the season began May 14 and concerts will run through early fall.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • The Academy D-20 Board of Education announced Thursday night that it is parting ways with Superintendent Jinger Haberer following a contractually allowable hearing; further plans for district leadership will be shared soon.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Cheyenne Mountain High School senior Evangeline McFarland turned her golf scoring error into a lesson in leadership when she shared her mistake and helped spark new school policies prioritizing students + she plans to attend Georgetown’s Walsh School of Foreign Service to champion global policy.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fountain will offer free bus rides this summer through its Summer Break program running in June, July & August, after a state-funded service ended. City officials say a 17.4% ridership boost last summer confirmed a strong need for the service.  11 News

  • Barrett Paas from The Classical Academy won the state 3A boys 3,200 run on Thursday at Jeffco Stadium after moving from 10th to first with a bold final push (his time was 9:40.07).  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Fountain-Fort Carson senior Amiyah Nash set two personal bests on Thursday morning at the 5A girls discus final at the Colorado Track and Field Championships, finishing second to Rocky Mountain’s Kaia Bennett, who tossed 130 feet, 9 inches (Lakewood).   • Coronado runner Oliver Horton won the 3A 3,200 run at the Colorado Track and Field State Championship on Friday with a strong final lap + narrowly beating Niwot's Ryder Keeton. He now prepares for the 1,600 on Saturday, aiming to complete a season triple.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Cheyenne Mountain junior Reagan McRae placed second in the 4A girls’ 3200 at a Lakewood race Friday morning - finishing 0.2 seconds ahead of Niwot’s Elise Hagen as Niwot’s Addison Ritzenhein secured fourth win with a time of 10:31.46.
