- ➤ The historic Manitou Springs penny arcade, which began as Bingo Jacks in 1933, is now under local care with John Weiss acting as caretaker — Maria and Alain Navaratne joining him while current GM AJ continues managing 30 employees. Maria said that if the weather is fine, more than 2,500 visitors will attend the arcade over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend at 930 Manitou Avenue. FOX21

- ➤ On May 13, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified 35-year-old Lisa West as the fatal shooting victim at a Fontmore Drive apartment—Colorado Springs Police stated that 36-year-old Kevin Wells was arrested after officers responded to a possible burglary in progress. FOX21
- ➤ Police arrested 36-year-old Kevin Wells—whose father and boss reported he shot his girlfriend—for the fatal shooting of Lisa West at Mountain Shadows Apartments on the west side of Colorado Springs Tuesday at about 11:30 a.m., with court appearances set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. May 22. - ➤ Christian Ortega, 33, admitted he deliberately hit a 74-year-old jogger with his SUV near Stratton Open Space at 11:50 a.m. on Monday after smoking weed and feeling like killing someone—he remained at the scene and was booked on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder with a $502,000 bond. - ➤ On Tuesday, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at Crows Nest Way in Woodmoor and found a woman with severe upper body injuries who was taken to a local hospital and remained in critical condition as of Thursday—21-year-old Nicholas Looper was arrested and charged with attempted murder with a $200,000 bond. 11 News

- ➤ Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services has started trail construction and improvements in Blodgett Open Space on the city’s northwest side. The project will add designated hiking and biking trails, decommission illegal trails, and build a new parking lot with 50 stalls — work that will continue through summer 2026 with temporary trail closures for public safety. - ➤ Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services began a trail construction and improvement project in Blodgett Open Space that will add designated hiking, biking, and multi-use trails and a new (50-stall parking lot) at the Quarry Trailhead. The work will continue through summer 2026 with temporary closures (for public safety) and social trails will be closed to restore open space. 11 News

- ➤ The Colorado Department of Human Services is now taking applications for its summer EBT program so families who rely on free school meals can receive $120 per child on an EBT card for the three-month break.
