ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One person died on Monday afternoon after a dirt bike crash near 1015 Florence Avenue West in southern Colorado Springs — police and fire crews arrived just before 5 p.m. and believe speed was a likely factor.  11 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Colorado Springs Police are searching for 78-year-old Maryellen Conaway, last seen around 3:30 p.m. Monday at her home on the 6500 block of Charter Drive near Dublin and North Union Boulevard—she is described as a 5-foot-6, 175-pound white female wearing blue jeans, a pink shirt and dark shoes.  11 News
  • Colorado Springs police are asking for help finding Virginia Manzi, a 70-year-old senior last seen Monday at 2:30 p.m. at La Baguette Cafe on East Pikes Peak and Tejon in downtown Colorado Springs + she is described as 5-foot-3, 110 pounds with gray hair, blue eyes, and wearing a black floral top with black leggings.  11 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 9, School District 49 filed a federal lawsuit in Colorado U.S. District Court against CHSAA, the Colorado Civil Rights Division and Attorney General Phil Weiser after approving a sports policy that sets teams by biological sex and limits locker room access. The suit alleges that current rules discriminate against female athletes — violating Title IX and the Equal Protection Clause.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Renovations at Palmer High School began with a groundbreaking ceremony (3:15 p.m. today) and work will officially begin Monday on the $100 million project that will restore the historic building and add a new academic wing. The project is set to continue for three years to boost the educational environment for local students.  KOAA News5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Manitou Springs ordered residents and businesses to stop all water use except for essential drinking after high turbidity and the loss of a backup supply led to a critical emergency. The order prohibits non-drinking uses—such as dishwashing, laundry, and outdoor sprinklers—and closed facilities like the Manitou Springs Pool and Fitness Center while officials work to repair the Old North Slope Pipeline.  11 News
  • Colorado Springs is set to purchase 5.75 acres from Academy School District 20 on the northeast side to form a 10.9-acre park near Cumbre Vista Park that will serve new neighborhoods like Powerwood 2 and Ridge at Woodmen. Councilwoman Nancy Henjum said the move is an important step towards meeting the city’s goal of 5.5 acres per 1,000 residents, though no funds have been set aside yet for park development.  Colorado Springs Gazette
