  • The National Association of Letter Carriers is hosting its annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive today in Colorado Springs — residents must leave nonperishable food items in or near their mailboxes so their letter carriers can collect them for local food pantries.  11 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Saudi man convicted of holding his Indonesian-born housekeeper captive and molesting her in his Colorado home pleaded guilty to 11 amended counts and has been ordered removed from the United States, with ICE taking him into custody Tuesday—he will be deported back to Saudi Arabia after nearly 19 years in prison.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The El Paso County Sheriff's Office issued a missing person alert Friday for 15-year-old Charlie Brian Burrows, last seen in the 13,000 block of Foggy Meadows Drive in Peyton—he is 5 feet 5, weighs 150 pounds, has light skin and wore a red sweater, blue jeans and grey sneakers while needing regular medication.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Colorado Springs Police are asking for help finding 87-year-old Sixto Colon (a Hispanic male about 6 feet two inches tall and around 200 pounds wearing blue jeans, a blue flannel shirt, gray house shoes, and two wrist watches) who suffers from dementia; he was last seen on May 8 around 5:30 p.m. near 11000 Rill Point and anyone with information is urged to call (719-444-7000).  KOAA News5

  • Local filmmaker Dana Kjeldsen will premiere his new horror Western film 'Varmint' Tuesday at Icon Cinema. Shot near Colorado Springs on a modest budget in a Black Forest barn, the film set in 1870 follows a band of robbers who take shelter after a botched robbery—uncovering past traumas while a mysterious threat lingers.  Colorado Springs Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Most Colorado Springs District 11 teachers voted 91% in favor of a one-day strike this Fall over unfair labor practices—no precise strike date was set. The decision follows the district’s move to end a decades-long contract and introduce a new employee handbook.  11 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Colorado Springs approved a plan for the Fishers Canyon Open Space covering 343 acres—227 acres set aside to protect wildlife and offer new trails for hiking, climbing and bouldering. The plan also safeguards raptor nesting sites and ensures a balanced mix of recreation and habitat conservation.  KOAA News5
  • The Colorado Springs Fire Department warned parents about a viral TikTok challenge where students put pencils or small metal objects in Chromebook ports, which can cause sparks that lead to fires. The department reported 16 incidents in local schools and is teaching fire safety through a youth program + urging parents to discuss the danger with their children.  Colorado Springs Gazette
