  • Generation Wild of the Pikes Peak Region launched its 'Take Your Brain Out' campaign to encourage families to cut screen time and boost outdoor play among kids ages 6 to 12.   • Colorado Springs author Teri Busse wrote 13 Days of Silence to document the 13-day period after her son Rylee went missing and was later confirmed dead in 2022—she is setting up the Rylee James Memorial Welding Scholarship with Kilroy’s Workshop to honor his memory and offer future opportunities.  11 News

  • The city has issued a noise hardship permit to Ford Amphitheater so it can host its summer concert season above city decibel limits under state law.   • Gas prices in Colorado Springs have stayed high with an average of $4.344 per gallon, up from $4.254 last week. Everyday on 1502 S. Tejon St. offered $4.04, the lowest price amid rising crude oil costs and supply chain issues.  Colorado Springs Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.S. Air Force Academy’s Hosmer Visitor Center opens May 16 with a free self-guided tour that takes visitors through seven galleries showcasing the cadet journey & military training history outside the academy’s gates.  Springs
  • Academy District 20 received $42.7 million from the Department of Defense to rebuild and expand Douglass Valley Elementary School on the Air Force Academy base in a funding announcement made yesterday; the project, part of the Public Schools on Military Installations program, will raise capacity to 787 students once complete.  Colorado Springs Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife said that with no new wolf releases last winter, the restoration project must rely on existing packs producing pups this spring. The six-year program manager will retire at the end of July, leaving his successor to tackle high wolf mortality and livestock disputes.  Colorado Public Radio
