COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Norris Penrose Rodeo Legacy Foundation and C&L Productions to host the inaugural City Slickers Ranch Rodeo on June 28 at the Norris Penrose Event Center on Lower Gold Camp Road. Teams of first responders and military members paired with experienced cowboys will compete in four timed events, and professional bull riding will cap off the event with proceeds benefiting charities selected by the top three teams.  FOX21

CRIME NEWS

  • Four men were arrested by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation on April 28 in connection with an interstate fentanyl distribution network — tied to the Sinaloa Cartel and operating in Denver Metro and beyond — police seized approximately 800,000 pills, different drugs, cash, vehicles, and detained four undocumented individuals.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Colorado Springs is set to host 26 festivals this summer that feature music, art, food, and community celebrations across various local venues. The events include gatherings from the Garden of the Gods Art Festival to the Labor Day Lift Off—offering a range of experiences for residents throughout the season.  Springs

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Jared Polis announced on Wednesday that $47,994,762 from Proposition 123 will be awarded to 21 recipients across the state. Two Colorado Springs projects include Fairview Housing Partners Ltd receiving $4,050,000 for 144 rental units at the Flats at Sand Creek and Pikes Peak Real Estate Foundation receiving $4,850,000 for 336 rental units at Bradley Ridge Apartments — with recipients required to complete statutory milestones before development continues.  11 News
  • Colorado Springs residents are invited to join the 2025 Report Out Community Tour with Mayor Yemi and City Councilmembers as they review progress on public safety, infrastructure, housing, economic vitality, and community activation. The tour will have seven stops in May and June—including a telephone townhall on June 5 from 6—7 p.m.—and requires advance registration.  City of Colorado Springs
  • Uber said it might cease operations in Colorado if Governor Jared Polis signs a new rideshare law that passed the legislature on a 64+1 vote and requires stricter driver background checks while allowing drivers and riders to opt out of continuous ride recording.  11 News
  • Jessie Kimber, the city’s Economic Development Director and military affairs liaison, was inducted as the 2024 Fort Carson Good Neighbor on Wednesday—she was honored by Major General David Doyle for her support of Fort Carson soldiers, families and civilians.  KOAA News5
