- ➤ The Downtown Partnership launched the Taco Trail on May 1 to spotlight ten local taco spots and offer a weekly raffle for a $25 gift card, and a family-owned restaurant said the event draws in new customers while keeping local traditions alive — the trail will run through the end of May. - ➤ Today, the Old Colorado City Trash Fairies met at Vermijo Park and picked up almost 2 tons of trash to help keep Colorado Springs clean & build community connections. Founded after a 2016 rainstorm, volunteers like Ryan MacNufo now use cleanup events to support their neighbors and start fresh. KOAA News5
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a two-car crash at La Salle St. and Chelton Rd. Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m.—a sheriff’s deputy’s attempted traffic stop led to a short chase, and one driver was ejected and taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. KOAA News5

- ➤ Police evacuated an apartment complex on South Circle late Sunday morning after finding a man dead with a grenade in hand, which did not work, and they believe he took his own life (the building was formerly Hotel Elegante). 11 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A bipartisan bill, HB 25-1192, would require one semester of personal finance for high school graduation for students entering ninth grade on or after September 1 and gives districts flexibility in implementing the course. The bill passed the House but faces opposition over added workload—lawmakers say it is key to equipping students with essential life skills and will be voted on in the Senate Education Committee today. - ➤ City officials kicked off the Keep it Clean Colorado Springs initiative on April 29—combining big clean-up events with smaller individual actions—to improve local cleanliness. 11 News
- ➤ After leaked reports said the Air Force Academy may cut 100 civilian jobs by September, 92 former instructors, veterans, and graduates warned that the cuts could hurt the school’s quality. Retired officers such as Maj. Gen. Halter, Lt. Col. Bidlack, and Dr. Aaron Byerley urged the academy to make changes slowly—ensuring that important courses and accreditation remain intact. KOAA News5
- ➤ Colorado lawmakers are considering a bill that will require the state health agency to collect data on the psilocybin program launching this summer—this measure passed committee 7–2 and would let the governor pardon fewer than 20 people while funding comes from gifts, grants and donations.
