CRIME NEWS

  • Colorado leaders expressed concern after a DEA raid early Sunday morning on an illegal nightclub in Colorado Springs resulted in the detention of more than 100 individuals — including service members working security — while officials investigated the incident.  11 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office dismissed a complaint that charged petitioners with misreporting contributions for the Karman Line annexation ballot petition because it ruled that Colorado Springs regulates its own municipal elections (the complaint fell outside state jurisdiction).  FOX21
  • Stand Against Monopolies & Defend Colorado are spending hundreds of thousands on Colorado Springs’ June 17 special election over the Karman Line annexation following a January council vote and petition drive. Local organizers planned a protest walk on Saturday along Platte Avenue from Acacia Park to The Citadel mall to show the 3.3 miles between the current boundary and a proposed community of 6,500 homes while ballots will be mailed on May 2 for military and overseas voters and on May 23 for residents.  Colorado Springs Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Amazon Prime Video will debut a documentary short on May 1 that follows the Military Basketball Association — a Colorado Springs nonprofit founded in 2017 that supports nearly 1,000 military players on 50 teams — as it works to combat military suicide and mental health stigma.  FOX21

  • Local venues in Colorado Springs will host Kentucky Derby parties on Saturday, May 3, with events featuring mint juleps, hat contests, live music, and special menus. Organizers at ViewHouse, Hotel Polaris, Axe and the Oak, and the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame promise themed festivities—marking a festive lead-up to the race’s 151st running.  Springs
