  • Fort Carson will host its 5th Annual Spring Fest today from noon until 4:00 p.m. on the soccer fields behind Ivy Fitness Center (6415 Specker Ave) with local vendors, a live petting zoo, food trucks, live music and a Purple Color 5K plus a one-mile race starting at 12:30 p.m. for military families.  KOAA News5

  • Today, Colorado Springs is offering four drop-off sites for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day where residents can safely dispose of unused or expired medications, and the police department warns that improper disposal can pollute water supplies.  11 News
  • Colorado Springs city officials met on April 25 to launch Phase One of the 2026 Park System Master Plan Project, gathering key data on park facilities and programs. Public input will begin late spring and continue through summer 2025—residents are encouraged to attend community meetings—ensuring the plan meets future park needs.  FOX21
  • Colorado Springs will open the application process for 2026 Lodgers and Automobile Rental Tax grants on Wednesday, April 30 — part of a new review process using four tourism pillars that look at projects in areas like attraction, arts and culture, sports and community, and outdoor recreation.   • Councilman Dave Donelson will host a town hall on Tuesday, April 29 at Colorado Springs Fire Station 18 (6830 Hadler View) to explain new traffic safety projects including changes to pedestrian refuge islands and road restriping on Flying W Ranch Road.  KOAA News5
  • The Colorado Senate overrode Gov. Jared Polis’ veto of a social media regulation bill last Friday with a 29-6 vote—a very rare move compared to past veto overrides. The bill, which would require social media companies to remove flagged accounts and set up law enforcement hotlines to help protect children, now goes to the House for a two-thirds vote.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade signed an official proclamation at Douglass Valley Elementary School on Friday recognizing April as the Month of the Military Child and Purple Up! Day for military-connected children— the event featured a 9 a.m. assembly with student speakers, performances, and remarks from district leaders.  11 News
  • The City of Colorado Springs will begin accepting applications for 2026 Lodgers and Automobile Rental Tax grants on April 30 to fund tourism projects and city improvements. Local agencies will review proposals against four criteria—tourist attraction, arts and culture, sports and community, and outdoor recreation—to ensure tax revenue from hotel and car rentals benefits services and events.  City of Colorado Springs

HEALTH NEWS

  • Scott Bartlett, diagnosed with autism in 2020 and now a board member with Autism Society of Colorado, works with the Center for Independent Living and said he is worried that dangerous ideas are leading some to try risky cures such as using nicotine patches on young children. He warned that treating autism as a disease to cure—reviving old myths and controversial claims—could harm the local community.  FOX21
