CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Colorado Springs man Joshua Spradling, 33 — arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery and burglary — is held on a $500,000 bond with a 9 a.m. court appearance scheduled for today. Colorado Springs Gazette
- ➤ A woman was arrested for motor vehicle theft in Cimarron Hills on Sunday when deputies stopped her white Chevrolet pickup for an obscured license plate—she now faces charges including motor vehicle theft, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, drug paraphernalia and fictitious registration. 11 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A Colorado Springs-based homeschool Science Olympiad team kept its winning streak when the high school squad won statewide for the fourth time in five years (with wins in 2023, 2024, and today) while the middle school team won its first title since 2021. Head coach Cindy Puhek said the repeated wins have increased pressure as more teams now aim at them. Colorado Springs Gazette
- ➤ Bryan Construction and CRP Architects proposed new plans for Jenkins Middle School that move the 7th and 8th grade wing to the southeast corner as part of a $30 million project (phase one complete by early August) to ready the building for the next school year. The board will vote on the budget and design plan next week (ensuring safety improvements and addressing building distress) before construction moves forward. 11 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Uber said it will stop operating in Colorado if lawmakers pass a rideshare bill that forces companies to run driver background checks every six months and record rides+ the company said that these rules could cause technical challenges and drive up costs, urging lawmakers to seek a compromise before the session ends on May 7. - ➤ The City of Colorado Springs said Marksheffel Road will close temporarily tonight from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and again from Friday at 7 p.m. to Monday morning for utility work — a detour along Peterson Road will allow local access to Reach Church and the Mountain Valley Preserve neighborhood. 11 News
- ➤ Firefighters with the Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station Fire Department began controlled burn drills at Cheyenne Mountain from 9 a.m. to noon on April 23 and will continue them through April 30 for annual recertification + officials said all safety measures are in place and asked the public not to call 911 if they see smoke. 11 News
- ➤ Today, smoke is visible at Cheyenne Mountain due to a fire training drill by the Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station Fire Department that will run from 9 a.m. to noon for a week—officials say there is no emergency—and residents are reminded—please do not call 911 if they see the smoke—.
