ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Tuesday morning, a small wing of The Gardens Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation center at 104 Lois Lane was evacuated after a hazmat incident suspected to have been caused by improperly mixed cleaning chemicals that released vapor into air vents—fire crews responded at 9:20 a.m., and by shortly after 10 a.m. hazmat technicians declared the building safe, allowing 23 residents to return while two were hospitalized for minor respiratory issues and one was treated on scene amid nearby road closures. - ➤ Clay and Emily Ross reopened Yobel and the Look Up Gallery on April 17 at a new 4,700-square-foot space in downtown Colorado Springs (517 S. Cascade Avenue) after closing in December 2023 when a fire in a neighboring business forced them to relocate. The boutique now features an art gallery with 18 local artists and will offer community classes (Ikebana floral design workshops starting May 1) as downtown continues to grow. Springs
- ➤ The Colorado Springs City Council declared May 5 the start of Small Business Week—an effort to encourage support for local small shops. - ➤ Two people were hospitalized after a shooting near Memorial Park Monday night—police reported the victims suffered minor injuries after a suspect fired dozens of shots while they were in their car and noted no one is in custody. Colorado Springs Gazette

- ➤ Colorado Springs District 11 will begin a $100 million, multi-year renovation of Palmer High School downtown this summer to update classrooms, tear down select buildings, and design a new athletic field area.
