  • On Apr. 8, 185 members of Pikes Peak Women gathered at The Pinery at the Hill for their 15th annual Wine, Women & Chocolate event where economist Tatiana Bailey discussed economic issues; the group also presented its first Marcy Morrison Award to mayor Natalie Johnson, honoring a civic pioneer.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Immanuel Lutheran Church will mark its 125th anniversary with a free liturgical event at 846 E. Pikes Peak Ave on Sunday, April 26 — the Hymn Fest starts at 2 p.m. and a silent film screening begins at 4 p.m.  Colorado Springs Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • SelectTech, an Ohio-based and women-led aerospace firm, announced its fall expansion near the Air Force Academy in Pikes Peak (adding over 150 jobs at nearly $86,000 per year) after earning up to $1,978,673 in incentive tax credits from the Colorado Economic Development Commission.  Colorado Public Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Second graders from Colorado Springs School District 11 will begin an outdoor lesson tomorrow at Venetucci Farm in Security as part of the new Nature Navigators program. Volunteers transformed part of the historic farm into a creekside classroom focused on water erosion and Native American land use (real-world learning).  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • UCCS announced it will host its own Air Force ROTC detachment in August, offering a closer training option for aspiring officers. The detachment will be housed in the College of Education.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Colorado Senate approved bipartisan legislation today that allows drivers to pay an extra $5 during vehicle registration to help fund wildlife crossings aimed at reducing collisions with animals, with the fee set to begin in 2027 (SB26-141) as the measure heads to the House for review.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The Air Force is planning a nuclear microreactor at Buckley Space Force Base that may be in use by 2030 (Buckley’s power provider, Xcel Energy, is aware of the project) as part of efforts to boost energy resilience while Colorado Springs Utilities explores advanced nuclear options.  Colorado Springs Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lilly Lundy, a Lewis-Palmer junior, qualified for Team USA on April 12 in Spokane, Wash, and will compete in the U17 43-kg class at Nationals from July 27 to Aug. 2 in Baku. She said representing her school is a great honor + excitement for her community.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • On Sunday, the Rockies rallied in the seventh inning with four straight hits — including Mickey Moniak’s two-run home run — to beat the Dodgers 9-6 before 42,677 fans at Coors Field. This win marked Colorado’s first comeback from a three-run deficit this season.  Colorado Springs Gazette
