  • The City of Colorado Springs approved a resolution to honor National Volunteer Week from April 19–25, recognizing volunteer efforts that benefit food distribution and park care, and will host cleanup events with Downtown Community Cleanup Day (April 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Great American Cleanup on May 2.  City of Colorado Springs

  • Ohio-based aerospace company SelectTech announced plans yesterday at the 41st Space Symposium at The Broadmoor to expand in Colorado Springs.   • A letter signed by 233 business leaders including Gov. Polis warned that recent policies and the exit of tech companies, such as Palantir, have hurt Colorado’s competitive edge. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in El Paso County must now dispose of pine needles with trash or at transfer stations because recycling is not available. In Teller County, a free residential disposal program is scheduled in May and June (check designated dates and locations).  KOAA News5
  • After Tuesday’s high winds spread the 1,003-acre Schwachheim fire and April 15 brought calm conditions to El Paso County, a fire weather watch is in effect today for 16 southern counties with up to 40 mph winds expected.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife are searching for a mountain lion last seen in Old Colorado City; residents are urged to report sightings by calling CPW at (719)227-5200.  KOAA News5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cache La Poudre Street Bridge in Monument Valley Park will be closed starting Monday for safety and access improvements through the fall. Crews will replace the bridge deck + widen sidewalks while adding lighting and drainage upgrades, and detours will guide park visitors using Glen Avenue at Uintah Street.  11 News
  • Drivers in southeast Colorado Springs face a significant detour on South Circle Drive after the westbound off-ramp onto Hancock Expressway closed through April due to work on the Circle Drive Bridges Replacement project; detour signs will guide drivers as business access from westbound Circle Drive is not available.  KOAA News5
