COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Broadmoor Hotel, the annual Space Symposium opens Monday for over 200 vendors and dozens of speakers to discuss the future of space with top leaders from government, military, commercial and civic sectors. The event runs through Thursday following last Friday’s successful Artemis II splashdown.  KVOR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mountain Mike’s Pizza opened its second location on April 1 at the Shiloh Mesa retail center in eastern Colorado Springs. The new 2,444 sqft restaurant offers a kids’ arcade, an all-you-can-eat lunch bar, and five big-screen televisions for sports fans while a grand celebration is planned later this spring.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Crossfire Ministries opened a larger thrift store at 4609 Austin Bluffs Parkway to fund its no-cost grocery store (serving 600 to 800 families) and has arranged the space to help shoppers find affordable items; it is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  KOAA News5

  • The Colorado Springs Philharmonic will launch America@250, a multi-concert series at Pikes Peak Center + renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman is set to perform at the opening show on April 18, with additional concerts scheduled for May and July.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Rotary Club presented a plan on Monday morning to restore the historic Acacia Park bandstand before the city council. The project, estimated at $900,000, will add a new canopy, expanded stage, grass seating and public bathroom, with contractor estimates coming soon and work expected by summer-2027.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Manitou Springs enacted Level 1 Water Restrictions after recording its lowest historic snowpack. Even-numbered properties may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays while odd-numbered ones on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with outdoor watering allowed for 20 minutes per zone during morning or evening time windows.  11 News
  • Lockheed Martin + other Colorado firms have been tapped by NASA to develop next-generation technology for the Habitable Worlds Observatory, which will be highlighted at the Space Symposium at The Broadmoor; the project aims to capture direct images of distant planets and search for signs of life in coming years.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Colorado Springs Utilities may need to move the Horizon Power Plant — a project designed to produce 400 megawatts — after a plume study raised light-sport aircraft safety concerns near the airport; work on the 100-megawatt battery storage proceeds at the current site.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Air Force hockey lost its leading scorer Will Dawson as he entered the transfer portal Monday amid more than 250 players moving this season. Dawson, who scored 10 points as a rookie and 25 points last season, played a key role on the team.  Colorado Springs Gazette
