  • Atrevida Beer Colorado, the area's first Latina-owned brewery, brews craft beers and now offers its beers at the airport+ as it adjusts taproom hours and prices; owners Jessica and Rich Fierro will celebrate their eighth anniversary on Cinco de Mayo while staying true to community values.  Springs
  • Dave Ruhl, the current EVP at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, will become the zoo's president and CEO starting June 12, replacing longtime leader Bob Chastain + the change marks a new chapter for the institution.  Colorado Springs Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Colorado Springs Philharmonic will perform Wickedly Broadway at Pikes Peak Center with sinister scores from classic Broadway villains. The concert runs at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and offers tickets from $37 to $202.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The War and Treaty will perform at Earl Klugh’s Weekend of Jazz at the Broadmoor, which also includes shows by Kenny G, Boney James, Al Di Meola, and Becky Taylor from Thursday through Saturday at 1 Lake Ave (tickets available online).  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Switchbacks Entertainment announced that 3-time GRAMMY winner Jelly Roll will headline a show at Weidner Field on July 30. The event will also feature Justin Moore and Ashley Cooke, with presales starting Thursday at 10 a.m. and tickets on sale Friday at 10 a.m.  11 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • All seven Falcon Zone schools earned the Purple Star designation for supporting military families, with the honor reflecting solid programs that help children of service members. Superintendent Brian Smith said the award coincides with April being the Month of the Military Child.  KOAA News5
  • State lawmakers propose ending the Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation program to save funds amid a budget shortfall, leaving high school seniors without a key tuition option. Some school districts are considering new pathways (such as a P-TECH program) as debates continue this week.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A fire that started Tuesday night on Fort Carson training grounds has grown to a 200-acre blaze after crews conducted back-burning to contain it, and officials say smoke will be visible today. No structures are threatened as crews continue to monitor the situation.  11 News
  • Hundreds gathered Tuesday to discuss Raeden's plan to move into the former intel chip plant on west Garden of the Gods as neighbors warned of noise issues (from its bitcoin past). City officials must give final approval and more public meetings are scheduled.  KVOR
  • The Parks Department released its 2025 report showing 22.5 million park visits and ($91.6 million) in local economic impact; the city will face a planned ($2 million) budget cut next year that will delay projects and close some park facilities.  Colorado Springs Gazette
