  • The Gazette family of newspapers won more than 50 awards at the Society of Professional Journalists' Top of the Rockies Excellence in Journalism competition—outperforming about 80 media groups from four states. The Colorado Springs Gazette earned 22 awards while The Denver Gazette and Colorado Politics also received top honors.  Colorado Springs Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Colorado Springs police arrested a suspect on Saturday at 5 p.m. after responding to a domestic call at a home in the 2900 block of East Las Vegas Street—officials say the suspect used social media to offer money and sexual favors to anyone willing to attack an ex.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Officers responded to a call about a woman not breathing on April 5 near the 800 block of Yuma Street and found her dead—her companion was arrested for second-degree murder after admitting to a fight with her.  FOX21
  • Nicholas Jordan, 25, accused of killing Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, and UCCS student Samuel Knopp, 24, in a dorm room on Feb. 16, 2024, will face his trial today with opening statements set for Tuesday and evidence scheduled to end on April 16—he also faces assault charges with a separate trial beginning on April 21.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Early Monday morning, Colorado Springs Police asked for help finding 12-year-old Lilyia Cruz after she was last seen on Sunday night at 9:30 while wearing a black sweatshirt and sweatpants—officials said she was spotted in the 3700 block of Trailrock Place on the south side of the city.  KOAA News5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews will close the I-25 connector road between Tejon and South Nevada and Tejon between the interstate and Brookside tonight at 9 p.m., with traffic and detours lasting until the morning commute Tuesday. The closures are part of a months-long makeover to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety — changes that have caused delays and difficulty for local businesses.  11 News
