  • Poor Richard’s, a long-standing downtown bookstore and community hub, has been sold to new stewards Joe Cole and Sarah Gibeau-Cole who promise to preserve its welcoming spirit. Former owners Richard Skorman and Patricia Seator will assist with the 30-day transition (a public celebration is planned for May 3).  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Today, community events include the Fine Arts Center Look Ahead at 30 W. Dale St.—Spring Fling at Pikes Peak International Raceway from April 10 to 11 and a Rocky Mountain women’s film festival on April 11.   • In April, Pikes Peak Library District celebrates National Library Week by offering free classes, book clubs and business assistance to residents—programs that provide early literacy, technical training and community activities that change lives.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Kids Crossing, a local foster care agency, is asking for public donations to supply camp gear for Camp Faubion in April at Camp Shady Brooke (near Deckers). The group still needs funds to cover the $300 gear cost per child as it works to reach a $20,000 goal.  11 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Award-winning musicals and plays will run at local theaters this spring. EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Lumina Foundation report shows Colorado leads in educational attainment with 60% earning credentials beyond high school; however, only 57.7% boost earnings by 15% over a basic diploma, calling for better alignment between short-term programs and high-demand industries.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Repair crews will work on a bridge at Garden of the Gods Road, causing northbound I-25 to close overnight this weekend. Lane reductions begin at 7 p.m. today with a detour (via Exit 146 to North Nevada Avenue) and all lanes will reopen Monday at 4 a.m.  Colorado Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Silver Linings Recovery Center opened a second sober living facility in Central Colorado Springs that offers free housing and support for 30 men recovering from addiction and homelessness (beds and showers provided).
