COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Visitors can purchase timed-entry permits and shuttle tickets Wednesday to secure spots on Pikes Peak for the 2026 season. Vehicles passing mile 7 from May 22 to Sept. 30 need a $2 permit, while shuttle service (running daily until Aug. 9) makes stops at Glen Cove, Devils Playground, and the summit.  Colorado Springs Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Shen Yun returns with a new show at the Pikes Peak Center this weekend — featuring Chinese dance, music, acrobatics and wordless storytelling from 5,000 years of history. Performances start Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., with tickets at $80.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Colorado Springs artist Shannon Mello opens her exhibit 'What I Pick Up Along the Way' at Auric Gallery (125 E.   • Twain Elementary School in Colorado Springs ended its lockdown Wednesday after police determined a reported threat was non-credible (officials confirmed no indication of danger). Classes resumed once the situation was cleared.  11 News
  • Taylor Schreiner, 18, a senior from Discovery Canyon High School (daughter of Brig. Gen. Robert Schreiner), was named Operation Homefront’s 2026 Military Child of the Year for the U.S. Space Force after being chosen among over 1,000 nominees; she will receive $10,000, a laptop, and other gifts.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Colorado Springs native and Air Force Maj. Nichole Ayers, who piloted a SpaceX Crew 10 mission and spent 146 days on the ISS, said the Artemis II mission is a key test bed for future lunar travel after NASA launched the deep-space journey yesterday (at Kennedy Space Center in Florida).  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Colorado’s hands-free law reduced distracted driving—preventing nearly 600 crashes, more than 400 injuries and six deaths as drivers faced a $75 fine plus two license points, while data shows a 4.7% drop in distracted driving from 2024 to 2025 with enforcement rising 216% in 2025.  Colorado Springs Gazette
