  • Colorado Springs is urging residents to prepare immediately amid rising wildfire risk brought on by record warm winter temperatures and increased Red Flag Warnings.   • Mountain Metro Bus Route 3 now offers free rides, connecting the downtown terminal + Old Colorado City with Memorial Park in Manitou Springs.  11 News
  • Local officials and veterans honored Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day yesterday at Memorial Park with wreath-laying, playing of taps, and a seven-tone bell salute as Councilmember Dave Donelson read a resolution passed Tuesday to recognize those who served and are still missing.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Master Sergeant John Mazzella turned 100 today in Colorado Springs; the veteran served 30 years in the Air Force (including three wars) and still runs marathons, walks, and lifts weights to keep active.  KOAA News5
  • Catholic Charities held its 25th annual St. Patrick’s Gala at Cheyenne Mountain Resort, where 325 guests raised $375,000 to support food + rent services for those in need.   • A $3 million lottery jackpot ticket was sold at Safeway on North Union Boulevard on Wednesday night, although the winner has yet to come forward. The ticket must be claimed within 180 days and funds support local parks, trails and wildlife.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Colorado Springs illustrator Luke Flowers, who has done 85 children’s books including projects with Netflix star Phil Rosenthal, works from his creative space called the Creative Cave (showing his love for Kermit prints and childhood toys). ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, gas prices in Colorado Springs average $3.84 at the pump — up $1.03 since last month and 93 cents higher than last year. The small drop in cost does little to ease the burden on drivers facing steep fuel prices.  11 News

  • State Forester McCombs said that a record warm winter is letting pine beetles thrive along the Front Range, making trees more likely to fuel wildfires.   • Gazette Preps named top players in 4A-1A boys basketball by awarding Wes McKenzie as coach of the year and Matthew Lebron as Peak Performer, with first and second team selections spanning local schools.
