COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, local non-profit Creating Connections hosts a community barbeque at Monument Valley Park near Marion House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—providing food, free haircuts, a raffle giveaway, and access to mental health services as well as food stamp and Medicaid help for homeless individuals and people experiencing drug addiction.  11 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The northbound lanes of Interstate 25 at the Cimarron Street exit were closed following a crash Thursday morning and remain closed as authorities manage the situation.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Crews quickly extinguished a garage fire at 6504 Hawkeye Dr.—just south of East Rockrimmon Boulevard—in Colorado Springs, and one person with minor injuries was treated after the incident.  11 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dawn Abeyta and her family run Hunter’s Hope—a business that began as a Christmas soap project in 2017 and now makes soap, candles, and wooden dough bowls. Twenty-two-year-old Hunter, a Colorado Springs native with autism, works on candles three days a week while he and his friends with developmental challenges participate in monthly group sessions, with products sold online and at Scheels.  Pikes Peak Bulletin

  • Leslie Mendelson, a New York singer-songwriter, will perform Sunday at Lulu's Downtown in Colorado Springs. Her album After the Party—made during the pandemic—shows she looks to a bright future.  Colorado Springs Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jenkins Middle School was closed after a recent fire inspection found that years of soil settlement shifted its foundation and undermined fire barriers, leaving the building unsafe. District officials said they will expedite a comprehensive repair plan—originally scheduled for summer 2027—while sixth graders return in the fall and older students attend other campuses.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Colorado Springs Parks Department announced it will use a $250,000 grant to add nearly 2.5 miles of new trails in Austin Bluffs Open Space and build a hiking trail with stone steps to the summit of Pulpit Rock — the project will also include upgraded trailhead amenities and additional parking to improve visitor access.  11 News
  • The City of Manitou Springs was awarded a $577,726 grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs to extend the life of its 2 million-gallon Mesa Water Storage Tank after inspections revealed advanced corrosion—rehabilitation work will begin in August with exterior coatings replaced by mid-October and interior repairs and new piping scheduled for spring 2026. A new 1.1 million-gallon tank will support service during the project when it comes online in May.  FOX21
