- ➤ Something New Boutique in Colorado Springs is launching a prom giveaway that lets students from 15 area high schools earn tokens with every dress purchase, and the high school with the most tokens will receive a $500 donation for prom expenses—students may also donate old dresses to help others prepare for the big night. 11 News
- ➤ The American Red Cross is calling on 30,000 supporters to deliver immediate aid on Red Cross Giving Day today— the local team said disasters are no longer seasonal but nearly everyday. It has responded to wildfires, structure fires in Colorado Springs, and national emergencies like Hurricane Helene and Milton— while also offering CPR classes, training, and blood donation services. 11 News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Colorado Springs man was charged with attempted murder after 26-year-old Dawson Fagerholm allegedly struck his family member with a tire iron for over 40 minutes on March 20, causing severe injuries and fleeing in a stolen Subaru while facing additional charges of aggravated robbery and false imprisonment and remaining in custody on a $100,000 bond as his court appearance is set for April 1. - ➤ On March 25, MSPD responded to a call near Deer Path Avenue and Oklahoma Road in Manitou Springs when a suspect stabbed a victim in the neck—after the victim shot the suspect twice, officers arrested him and he now faces charges of criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder and first-degree assault while both patients remain stable in hospital. - ➤ Two additional burglaries early Tuesday occurred as part of a string of overnight robberies and are under investigation by the sheriff’s office and police. The burglary at Loaf’N Jug happened before 4:30 a.m. while an armed break-in at Faded Image Barbershop occurred around 3:50 a.m.—authorities said masked suspects robbed six convenience stores in 80 minutes. 11 News

- ➤ Colorado Springs Utilities has approved a natural gas rate increase that will start on April 1 — the change is due to rising wholesale prices and LNG exports and is expected to add about $6.47 per month to the average residential bill. Colorado Springs Business Journal

- ➤ The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department received a $250,000 Non-Motorized Trails Grant to improve trails in Austin Bluffs Open Space. The funds will build nearly 2.5 miles of multi-use trails including a 0.5-mile hiking-only trail to Pulpit Rock and enhance two parking lots — helping move the project closer to the final Austin Bluffs Open Space Master Plan. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Colorado lost $250 million in federal health funding on March 24 when the US Department of Health and Human Services and CDC ended grants from the American Rescue Plan Act because the pandemic was over. State officials & lawmakers warned that the cuts could harm services like crisis response, childhood vaccines and disease tracking while they work on next steps amid a tight state budget.
