  • Stix & Soul Kitchen opened at The Citadel mall’s former Hooters space on March 19 and now serves full-service soul food on Thursdays through Sundays; its grand opening will follow once the liquor license is approved.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Dad’s Donuts, a popular downtown pastry shop, announced its indefinite closure after its building was sold and a key employee took medical leave. The shop plans to find a new space and reopen as soon as possible.  Colorado Springs Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Colorado Springs’ Cheyenne Mountain Zoo was voted the second-best in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers' Choice Awards for 2026, tying its highest ranking ever. The zoo will celebrate 100 years and plan to open the International Center for the Care and Conservation of Giraffe later this year (according to the zoo).  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • History Colorado and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation launched a Historic Marker Program — inviting local groups to propose up to 150 markers celebrating our state’s dual anniversaries — with proposals starting April 15 and installation planned for late Summer, while experts review each submission.  Colorado Springs Business Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Red Rock Canyon Open Space offers an easy Contemplative Trail for a pretty walk near the parking lot off U.S. 24. The park is a popular spot for new hikers exploring interconnected trails (as noted by Jennifer Mulson).  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • A wildfire burning just east of Highway 115 in Fremont and El Paso counties reached 7,408 acres on Monday and remained 0% contained, prompting an evacuation warning for Sandy Creek Ranch Heights; firefighters battled thick brush, low humidity, and breezy conditions.  KVOR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso County is working on Beacon Lite Road between Wakonda Way and Bricker Road, causing traffic changes as crews excavate trenches, relocate utilities, and install storm sewers through April. Drivers should use an alternate route (Wakonda Way, Aries Drive, Indi Drive, and Palmer Divide Road) and follow signs.  El Paso County
  • Ramona Avenue near South Nevada closed for three days starting Monday for paving on Monday and Tuesday and striping on Wednesday morning—drivers should follow posted detour signs while business access stays open and local traffic is largely unaffected.  11 News
