  • Local nonprofits are hosting a series of fundraising events beginning today through Aug. 15. Events include Jersey Mike’s Sub Month of Giving, a bake sale, a raffle, and a car show with details emailed two weeks ahead for the Community Calendar.  Colorado Springs Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fort Carson officials reported that the wildfire along Colorado 115 grew little overnight but challenging winds and rising heat on Saturday made control difficult; evacuation orders remain in place while firefighters + hotshot crews work to secure the perimeter and no injuries or structure damage have been reported.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Fort Carson is set to fire 155mm training artillery and inert rockets in May at the Piñon Canyon Maneuver Training Site northwest of Trinidad, amid dry conditions that heighten fire risk + concerns about damage to historic sites.  Colorado Springs Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Colorado's fentanyl overdose deaths have risen 17% since December 2024 (the third-fastest increase nationally) while rates across the country dropped 21%, prompting calls to revisit state drug policies.  Colorado Springs Gazette
