COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The annual Polar Plunge Fundraiser will be held soon in Colorado Springs to raise money for the Special Olympics, with the day’s schedule and details to be announced later.  11 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new food truck lot known as The Lot opened Saturday near Weidner Field and the Olympic Museum in downtown Colorado Springs—food trucks will rotate weekly. The lot will serve lunch—11:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m. and dinner—4:00 p.m.—8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  KOAA News5

CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday morning, officers responded to a domestic disturbance on the 500 block of Lionstone Drive in eastern Colorado Springs and arrested 19-year-old Giovanni Arcos—now facing multiple charges including attempted murder.  11 News
  • On Saturday night, March 15th, police responded to a shooting on Sonoma Drive and found two victims who were taken to the hospital—both are expected to survive—while investigators search for the shooter.  KOAA News5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife District Manager Aaron Berscheid said that as Colorado Springs grows east, the pronghorn herd is expected to move further east—losing habitat as development increases. CPW advises that the animals will seek more open space if growth continues in the area.  KOAA News5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting residents for its volunteer program that trains them to help with traffic control, lost property, and security at crime scenes, with applications open until March 24. The Posse Academy runs from April 15—May 3 and all first-year volunteers will receive a commemorative patch after training.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Yolanda Avila will leave the Colorado Springs City Council in April after eight years of service as an advocate for District 4 and for residents with disabilities. She led projects like the $8.5 million Panorama Park renovation and pressed for better transit and safety — she also endorsed Chauncy Johnson as her successor — with her final council meeting set for April 8.  Colorado Springs Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mikko Rantanen played his first game as a Dallas Stars forward on Sunday at Ball Arena against the Avalanche as Cale Makar scored an overtime winner to secure a 4 to 3 loss—fans cheered and booed during his return. Rantanen said he handled the mixed crowd well and is focused on helping his team improve as they prepare for a possible playoff matchup.  11 News
  • Colorado State’s men’s basketball team, led by Colorado Springs native Nique Clifford, clinched an NCAA Tournament spot by winning the Mountain West Conference Tournament against Boise State on Saturday. The Rams hold a 25 to 9 record and will play No. 5 seed Memphis in Seattle on Friday, March 21 at 11 a.m. PT on TBS.  11 News
