COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Special Olympics Colorado is hosting a polar plunging event to support thousands of athletes. The fundraiser is set to inspire local participation in Colorado Springs + encourage community engagement.  11 News
  • Therapy dogs from local nonprofit Go Team visited the Police Operations Center on Friday, Jan. 29 to ease stress for dispatchers and first responders.   • Colorado artist Ana María Hernando presents Cantando Bajito at the Fine Arts Center at Colorado College through July 3. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Education Freedom Tax Credit (EFTC) has passed to let individuals and businesses donate up to $1,700 to nonprofit scholarship organizations that help low-income families choose better schools; the policy empowers parents and complements public education across Colorado Springs and beyond.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 received a $345,340 grant extension from The Colorado Trust to double its weekly food bag distribution at 14 schools, with funding expected to reach nearly $480,000 next year (helping more families access essentials).  Colorado Springs Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • This winter was warmer than usual—December recorded temperatures 10.1° above average and January brought more snow in parts of El Paso County while the snow pack held less than half its average water. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local residents spoke at a city council meeting about a proposed car camping ban and its effects on unsheltered people who use vehicles for safety. They urged officials to create safe parking zones (with basic services) to help those facing cognitive challenges.  Colorado Springs Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Pikes Peak Housing Network released its (8-page) 2025 State of Housing report, outlining ongoing challenges and small gains with more affordable home sales and smaller homes. The report notes 2,744 apartment permits, including (832 for affordable housing), signaling progress for local buyers and renters.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Lewis-Palmer boys basketball beat No. 1 Palisade 63-46 on Saturday at Denver Coliseum, adding a Final Four banner to their wall (following a 34-13 halftime lead). The Rangers will face No. 13 Silver Creek on Thursday, Mar. 12.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Mesa Ridge’s team lost 62-55 to Silver Creek in a Great 8 game at the Denver Coliseum on Saturday, March 7 — coach Joel Babbit praised the team’s strong defense despite missing a Final Four spot.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The Switchbacks opened the 2026 season with a 2-2 draw at El Paso Locomotive FC on Saturday, as new coach Alan McCann integrated fresh players; forward Khori Bennett scored early and goalie Christian Herrera made five saves, with a home opener against Las Vegas Lights FC set for next week.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Air Force freshman Bhret Clay hit a clutch 3-pointer with 1:41 left in the game on Saturday at the Mountain West tournament in Las Vegas (the game ended 60-5 over Wyoming), and she scored 10 points while earning a spot on the All-Freshman team.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • At the Mountain West Women’s Basketball Championships in Las Vegas, Air Force junior Jayda McNabb earned Defensive Player of the Year honors while teammate Milahnie Perry made the All-Mountain West team after scoring 18 points against Wyoming.
