  • Train Expo Colorado may be its final show as chairperson Elizabeth Maline retires after two years trying to step back.   • Jungle Reef interactive touch aquarium is opening its second location at Chapel Hills Mall on March 20, offering hands-on animal encounters and conservation education for guests of all ages — the project faced multiple delays from construction challenges.  KOAA News5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A fire that started Wednesday on Fort Carson spread over about 350 to 400 acres and was 30% contained by Thursday morning; crews continued monitoring the blaze amid a red flag warning (winds reached 15 to 20 mph) as mutual aid partners returned to their areas.  Colorado Springs Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • A fifth Colorado child died from influenza this season outside Denver, and state health officials warned that low vaccination rates may be raising the risk for young children.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Emmett, a popular grizzly bear at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, underwent cancer surgery on Thursday night (removing most of his tail and the tumor) and is now resting in his den away from visitors.  11 News

  • A Pikes Peak Housing Network report finds rising housing costs are reducing local purchasing power while more affordable starter and multifamily homes built in 2025 show an improved housing mix (from 18% to 29% under $450K); however, the county still needs 13,815 additional housing units to meet demand.  Colorado Springs Gazette
