CULTURE NEWS

  • Local entertainment thrives this weekend with comedy, dance and interactive theatre offerings. Comedian Ben Roy performs his streaming special at Loonees Comedy Corner Friday while choreographer Helanius J.   • Colorado Springs hosts diverse live music for Valentine’s weekend. Country singer Easton Corbin performs Thursday at Phil Long Music Hall, Parish House Baroque plays Renaissance-inspired tunes Friday and Saturday at Peel House, and Colorado Springs Philharmonic presents Jurassic Park: In Concert Friday and Saturday at Pikes Peak Center.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The annual Colorado Springs Wine Festival will take place from March 4 to 7 at The Broadmoor (15 Lake Circle), featuring South American wines with tastings, seminars, food pairings and a gala dinner, and discounted rooms are available for visitors.  Colorado Springs Independent
  • The Michelin Guide announced on Wednesday, Feb. 11 that Colorado restaurants statewide + including those in Aurora and Colorado Springs are now eligible for Michelin stars. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers should plan alternate routes as southbound lanes on Peterson Road from Highway 24 to Peterson Space Force Base’s north gate will be closed from Saturday through Monday for an improvement project — northbound vehicles can use the slip lane at Space Village Avenue.  11 News
  • Colorado Springs City Council approved a proclamation recognizing February as Black History Month at Tuesday's meeting after a previous attempt was rejected. Local leaders stressed the importance of celebrating the community's historic contributions with related events coming soon.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The Colorado Springs Fire Department has launched a new training academy funded by $1.3 million from marijuana tax funds after budget cuts threatened the program. Thirty-six trainees will complete 18 weeks of training to help the department reach full staffing.  KVOR

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new public education campaign launched on Tuesday in El Paso and Teller counties to warn parents and young adults about the risks of high-potency THC and guide families on starting conversations about substance use. The effort, funded by a local opioid abatement council, includes billboards and school outreach.  KOAA News5

  • Vail's Elizabeth Lemley, 20, won gold in freestyle moguls with an 82.3 score at the Winter Olympics in Livigno, Italy on Wednesday, Feb. 11 — her win marked the second medal for a Colorado athlete this week.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • After a 1-5 start, Falcon boys’ basketball improved to 15-6 with 13 wins in a row and an undefeated 9-0 league record, clinching the CSML North title. Coach Wood said the team’s focus on playing together — a shift in mindset — may propel them to a deep playoff run.  Colorado Springs Gazette
