CULTURE NEWS

  • El Paso County cardholders with library cards starting with 4 can reserve a free museum pass from the Pikes Peak Library District’s Culture Pass program that offers access to sites such as the Fine Arts Center (live performances) and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum.   • Colorado Springs Chinese Cultural Institute will host its 27th annual Lunar New Year Festival on Saturday at Ent Center for the Arts (10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.).   • At Summit Elementary, fly fishermen Craig Haney and Rex Caraway taught students casting and tying flies last week, as part of their insect science class. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso County announced that Parks Executive Director Todd Marts will retire at the end of February after 31 years of service. Todd began his career in 1994 and has led improvements in parks, open spaces and community programs.  El Paso County
  • The City of Colorado Springs will begin installing a new traffic signal next week at the Marksheffel and Peaceful Valley Road intersection to improve safety. The western section of Peaceful Valley Road from Marksheffel Road to Pennycress Drive will close for six to eight weeks, so drivers should use detours via Poa Annua Street or Mesa Ridge Parkway.  El Paso County

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Cottonwood Creek Park on the north side offers a 3.1-mile loop with paved and gravel trails providing views of Pikes Peak + access to sports fields, disc golf, and dog walking. The park at 7040 Rangewood Drive is open daily from early morning until evening.  Colorado Springs Gazette
