  • Colorado Springs plumber Rick Miller advises residents to locate their main water shutoff in advance of a deep freeze this weekend, as older homes and newer areas lacking insulation risk frozen pipes. He recommends opening cabinets (to let heat warm pipes) and letting faucets drip to prevent burst pipes.  11 News

  • Colorado Springs coin gallery owner Tom Hallenbeck said long lines have formed as precious metal prices soar, with silver nearly double its 1980 value. Economist Joe Craig noted buyers and sellers are reacting and Hallenbeck is curbing silver sales as the U.S. Mint pauses them (to avoid a market drop).  11 News

  • Colorado Springs Utilities and CPW are discussing expanding recreation at Rosemont Reservoir (12 mi southwest) by adding camping, parking, non-motorized boating and restrooms. City Council will review the proposal on Feb. 10.  KOAA News5

  • A rural hospital in Hugo faced rising costs from federal Medicaid cuts and higher labor expenses on Tuesday, Jan. 20 as executives debated new funding options. The 15-bed Lincoln Community Hospital is the only facility for patients within a 75-mile radius (hospital leaders are urging Congress for flexible funding measures).  Colorado Public Radio

  • Colorado College junior center Klavs Veinbergs from Jelgava, Latvia, has won 277 faceoffs in 22 games and said he is focused on team play despite fewer assists since early November.
