COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Solid Rock CDC Aquapod Farm opened Saturday at 1520 Verde Drive to provide fresh produce in a local food desert. Using tilapia fish in its aquaponics system, it will distribute up to 500 heads of lettuce weekly to food centers and restaurants.  11 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Preservation Society is set to host an All Peoples Prayer Breakfast at the Antlers Hotel followed by a Unity March to Acacia Park; Yolanda Renee King (King’s grandchild) will speak as part of ‘Mission Possible II’ highlighting Dr. King’s legacy and historical anniversaries.  11 News

  • Colorado College will begin a revenue sharing program with its two Division-I sports this fall to reward student-athletes who show a team-first approach & boost recruitment for hockey and women's soccer; Division-III athletes will continue to pursue third-party NIL deals.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in Colorado Springs face multiple road closures this week as construction on South Academy, Marksheffel Road — and downtown 8th Street prompts scheduled overnight and daytime detours. Crews will upgrade roads and improve drainage on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Commissary shoppers at Fort Carson and Peterson now can order grocery deliveries from onsite shops via a new Defense Commissary Agency service. Piloted since 2022 and set to expand by January’s end, the service will operate Monday through Friday for customers with a DoD ID (delivery fees vary by distance).  Colorado Springs Gazette
