- ➤ At its Holiday Evening Gala in December at Cheyenne Mountain Resort, the Southern Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce announced plans for 2026 to expand quarterly programs into Pueblo — move to a larger headquarters at 1175 Kelly Johnson Blvd and increase staff to support women-owned businesses. - ➤ Historian William Schultz’s book (Jesus Springs) explains how military spending and a network of ministries once made the city a center of evangelical power that shaped national debates. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety finished restoring Pikeview Quarry by planting nearly 32,000 trees and shrubs to stabilize a 100-acre slope that provided much of the city’s building material (bighorned sheep now graze there). - ➤ On Jan. 16, the D-49 Board of Education approved a fiscal exigency that will reduce approximately $1.8 million in teacher salaries & benefits by cutting 110 nonprobationary staff positions. The board said the move is necessary as declining enrollment and funding challenges have led to an unsustainable budget. Colorado Springs Gazette

- ➤ Pine Creek wrestling won its fourth straight boys team title at the 2026 COS Metro Wrestling Championships at Trojan Arena — scoring 222.5 points while the girls’ team captured their second win. The coaches emphasized teamwork as the teams prepare for future meets. Colorado Springs Gazette
