  • The Office of Economic Development approved nearly $2M in job growth incentives last Thursday for Project Oak (an unnamed aerospace firm) weighing a move to El Paso or Elbert, which could add 150 jobs at nearly $86,000 average wage if it meets growth targets over eight years.  Colorado Springs Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • In Colorado Springs, School District 11 ended its union contract, enabling administrators to hire teachers when needed while achieving record low vacancies, saving over $6.5 million & boosting pay by 10%.   • The Colorado Wildland Fire and Incident Management Academy held its winter training on Jan. 15 at Cheyenne Mountain State Park with over 900 firefighters and students learning techniques to tackle rising wildfire risks. Officials say the program trains technical skills and mental resilience to prepare new firefighters for large fires.  Colorado Springs Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • PPORA will use a $2.5 million grant to expand camping and connect segments of the Ring the Peak trail in the Pikes Peak region and launch a three year ambassador program at parks & trailheads. The grant is the first step in a four year outdoor recreation project that will total over $6.1 million.  Colorado Public Radio

  • Colorado State women beat Air Force 65-63 on Wednesday night at Clune Arena in a game played without fans due to a water main break. The teams will meet in the regular-season finale in Fort Collins on Feb. 28.  Colorado Springs Gazette
