Speak to Me In Silence

About this event

Ent Center – Chapman Recital Hall

This morning, yes, this morning, I kneel down on the green grass—

And I notice your presence.

Flowers, that speak to me in silence.

The message of love and understanding has indeed come.

– Thich Nhat Hanh

The silence we leave behind and the words we wish we’d spoken – Anna Clyne’s Within Her Arms is a mournful, deeply personal elegy for strings that is dedicated to the fearless composer’s late mother and based on the poetry of Thich Nhat Hanh. The journey continues through the sparkling soundscapes of Nicky Sohn’s guitar concerto, written as a showcase for Bokyung herself, and concludes with the harmonic perfection of Mozart: an eight-movement serenade that is a world all its own.

• Anna Clyne: Within Her Arms

• Nicky Sohn: Guitar Concerto

• Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Serenade No. 4 in D major, K.203

Featuring: Bokyung Byun, guitar
